The Marlton Womans Club
The club was first established in 1963; and then in 1964, it joined the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Some of the members are now in their 70’s and 80’s. The club’s longevity shows that it has had a lasting impact on the shape of the surrounding communities. It is an organization where local women can come together and develop their community, their relationships with others and themselves.
The club is non-political and non-sectarian. Any woman can join, no matter where they live. There are members from communities all through Burlington County.
The club does numerous service projects that focus on many different sections of the surrounding communities. In 2013 they gave away more than $10,000 to more than 25 different charities. Some of these service projects are:
• Supporting Cherokee High School scholarships
• Donating money to Operation Smile
• Sending stockings at Christmas to the troops overseas
• Bringing candy and cookies to retirement homes for Valentine’s Day
• Planting tree saplings for Earth Day
• Supporting women in the military
• Recognizing Marlton Middle School students for achievements in math
• Providing assistance to displaced or out of work families
• Supporting the Wounded Warrior Project
Recently the club’s Public Issues Committee presented Evesham Fire-Rescue with a donation to be used for its Hug-A-Bear program. This program supplies rescue workers with small plush animals to give to children in emergencies or times of stress.
The club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from September to May at the Gibson House Community Center, 535 E. Main Street, in Marlton. Refreshments are served at 6:30 pm for a social gathering and the general meeting begins at 7:00 pm. The annual dues are $35.
