Governor Christie Comes To Mount Laurel
Recently Christie and his top aides have been fighting allegations of abuse of power as state and federal investigators look into the George Washington Bridge scandal. There are also allegations that top Christie officials improperly withheld Hurricane Sandy relief dollars from Hoboken.
In recent weeks, Christie has been holding town hall events in friendly Republican towns and in places battered by Hurricane Sandy, where he has been able to focus on his new $34.4 billion budget plan and the state’s ongoing recovery from the 2012 Super Storm Sandy.
Mount Laurel, a Burlington County town, is known around the country for a pair of major rulings that were won by civil rights groups in the 1970s and 1980s at the state Supreme Court. In the “Mount Laurel” decisions, the court ordered that towns must provide affordable housing for their poorest residents, and cannot price them out of their neighborhoods by raising property values and making zoning changes.
Governor Christie has been opposed to these court decisions and has been fighting them in court for years.
This town hall event will be the 113th for Governor Christie.
